Felipe sees bodies in every corner of Santiago, and seeks to match their numbers with the official death toll, arriving at a perfect number with no survivors. As for "Iquila" and "Paloma", they share the memory of a mysterious and cloudy childhood meeting, and a friendship that linked the parents of one of them with the parents of the other, in the past.
The three embark on an unexpected journey to recover the body of Paloma's mother, after she was stuck in Argentina due to volcanic ash.
Through a different and new narrative, Alia Trabuco Theran, in her novel that was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize in 2019, tells us about the past that has not passed, about the dark family legacy of the children of those who lived under the Pinochet dictatorship, and about confronting the pain that extends across generations.
Alone on Baraway Island, Ingrid lives after everyone has left, roaming the ruins, repairing what can be repaired, and catching fish and bodies that wash up on the island's shores. The young woman struggles to hide a big secret that could put her in danger, as the country witnesses the final months of World War II.
In this novel, Roy Jacobsen completes the story of Barawe Island, which began with "The Invisibles", with his delicate narration, natural images, and brief sentences that hide the truest and hottest feelings behind them.
“White Sea” is a novel about new beginnings that make their way from the ashes of a devastating war, about friendships and love, the faces of those passing by and the dead, and about people who remain where they are in the face of war, bidding farewell to the departed and receiving those returning, and monitoring the passing of days and the succession of seasons.
About the book
(Features of the heart):
In this book, I convey my thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences in a way that is somewhat vague or explicit at times.
I express this in short, not lengthy lines so that the meanings are conveyed quickly and enjoyable to the reader.
I use imaginative images to express, and sometimes I convey the truth of reality from experiences with full disclosure.
My humble writings are a personal effort and the result of two years or perhaps more, as I found encouragement to publish from a number of writers who read some of what I wrote.
I hope that my dream will come true through you, and I hope you can let me know your opinion about my humble writings, and I welcome your comments
