تتناول الرواية قصة الحياة في المستقبل حيث يسيطر العلم على البشر، تختفي المشاعر، ويقوم النظام بالسيطرة على الناس من خلال المخدرات والسيطرة على التكاثر من خلال إنتاج أطفال محددي الوظائف والرغبات، في مجتمع الكل به سعيد لكنه معدوم الحرية.
